Good Ol Rob Humphrey is knocking down doors and taking no names in his latest project at the TriangleAtWork.
Do you want to know how to attract really top notch people? Ask them to solve a question on your website, and if they give the best answer, call them up and offer a job. Google does it with their daily puzzles and with their recruiting standards, and now Rob has brought it to the Research Triangle.
Looking for OO Developers? Why not ask a question only the smartest could answer? If you are running a local talent blog, and are stuggling to draw targeted traffic to your site, why don't you consider a similar strategy? If you are looking for customer service types, ask for a story about how they helped a customer. If you are looking for someone who can sell ice to Eskimos, why not ask a sales related question and have them make videos of sales presentation.
To get results, you have to ask. And to get results from your blog, you have to give your readers something to do - a reason, whether pride, or money, or a chance at a signing bonus (how about a $5,000 signing bonus if they answer the question correctly from the blog, and take the job? - Talk about building buzz).
Tody's businesses need creative employees. If you're going to be stodgy on your blog, how are you gong to convince good employees to come work for you? The benefit package? Does that work for anyone who already has a job?
And yes..the company that asked me to post this "guru question" interviewed and hired the only person to answer the question correctly!
